Creativity is something that we encourage in our students. Frequently, their creativity knows no bounds, like with school supplies, and all the ways they can think up to use them as things…other than school supplies.
Teaching tip #319 – When using rulers, give your students a solid 2 minutes to do nothing but make helicopters out of them. That way they get it out of their system and can focus on actually measuring….usually ; )
I thought I was a genius buying pencil top erasers to make the pencils in my class last a little longer (why is it that students MUST chew pencil erasers off?) The first time I found a pencil like this in my classroom, I’m not sure if I was more frustrated or amazed. Maybe some day the kid that did it will become an engineer.
This is probably a familiar situation if your students aren’t old enough/responsible enough to sharpen and bring their own pencils to school every day. You just taught an awesome lesson, it’s time for kids to do some independent practice, and then….
